Wat
Mahathat is located on the north side of Grand Palace Coplex.
The temple is founded in 18th century, pre-dates the founding
of Bangkok. Wat Mahathat was significantly renovated after
one of its monks, Prince Mongkut, became King Rama IV. Wat
Mahathat is the center of Mahanikai School of Buddism. The
temple is also the most important temple for studying of
Buddhism and meditation. Most class are in Thai, but English
also available in some classes. Classes are held daily from
7-10 in the morning, 1-4 in the afternoon and 6-8 in the
evening. On Sunday there is a big amulet market near the
temple.
