Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya was an ancient capital city of Siam (Thailand) from 1350 to 1767. In the sixteenth century, Ayutthaya was described by foreign traders as one of the biggest and wealthiest cities in the East. By 1700 Ayutthaya had become the biggest city in the world with a sum of 1 million residents. Nowadays, Ayutthaya city is one of major tourist attractions in Thailand. Many ancient ruins and art works can be seen in the city. Ayutthaya city is just about 80 kilometres north of Bangkok. It is conveniently reachable due to excellent roads and a short distance from Bangkok.
